The ideal gift
(A) Niederhorn – Vorsass
Start your winter hiking with a visit to the summit, from where you will be able to enjoy a wonderful all-round view into the Justis valley on the one side and onto Lake Thun with its Alpine panorama on the other.
The highest part of this trail runs above the tree line. You therefore have an unobstructed view of Lake Thun, as well as of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
The start of the hike is steep. The winter hiking trail flattens out at Himmelkehr towards the tree line. The trail is now easier for walking. If you’re lucky, you may see an eagle making a reconnaissance flight.
You are now hiking through individual groups of snow-covered trees, and you may occasionally also see grouse here. You then come to the first, slightly steeper S-bend through the light forest and will soon arrive at the Flösch with its 2 cabins, where you can take a breather on one of the benches on the south side and enjoy the fantastic view. Here, you already have half the trail behind you.
From here on, the trail leads through the heavily snow-covered forest, where you will feel yourself really secure under the high pine trees, which also offer good protection against the wind. The winter hiking trail is wide and well prepared. S soon as you emerge from the forest, you will see the Vorsass middle station with its restaurant right in front of you.
