(B) Vorsass – Bodenalp – Beatenberg

  • Start: Vorsass middle station
  • Destination: Beatenberg Station car park
  • Hiking time: 1 ½  hours
  • Distance: 6 km
  • Altitude difference: 450 m

Remarks:

  • Anyone who has hiked from the Niederhorn as far as the Vorsass middle station can continue with this trail.
  • This trail is not regarded as a regular sledge run, and is therefore not checked in the evening. Many people use sledges on the downhill parts pf the trail, however.  It should be noted that the path further below, close to the village, is not always covered in snow.

From Vorsass, a small road leads through the dense forest. You no longer have a view of the mountains, but you will certainly feel good in the snow-covered  pine trees, and it is quite possible that you may meet deer or chamois here.
You then hike up to the Bodenalp on a wide path with a light gradient. This stretch is therefore also suitable for those who are not too good on their feet.
From the Bodenalp, the road leads on through the forest. The forest comes to an end at Haberelegi, and you will have a wonderful view of Lake Thun in front of you. You can see Spiez, the Niesen and the Kandertal valley. Half of the journey is now behind you.
The most beautiful part of this winter hiking trail now follows, through country that always has a beautiful view. There is a strong possibility of seeing chamois or ibex in the twilight.
The countryside now varies between short sections of forest and open meadows until you reach the first houses of Beatenberg. You will find a restaurant waiting for you when you arrive in the Riedboden. Alternatively, you can follow a footpath and a small road to Beatenberg Station.
